Most vehicles manufactured before 2017 use R134a refrigerant. Vehicles from 2017 onwards typically use the newer R1234yf refrigerant, which has a much lower global warming potential. A regas will restore the refrigerant level and improve cooling efficiency, which should reduce the conditions that cause mould growth on the evaporator. However, if the smell is already established, we may also recommend an antibacterial air con treatment to eliminate it completely.
