Cheap Tyres Norwich
Budget tyres that are legal, labelled and fitted properly, plus honest advice on when cheap really is cheaper. Open seven days at 100-106 Ber Street.
Tyres at Ber Street start from £40. Searching for cheap tyres in Norwich usually means one of two things: you need a legal tyre on the car today without spending more than you have to, or you want to know whether the cheapest option is actually the sensible one. We can help with both. Our Ber Street workshop stocks budget tyres from reputable makers alongside mid-range and premium brands, and we will tell you plainly which one suits your car, your mileage and your wallet before anything comes off the shelf.
What "Cheap" Actually Buys You
Every new tyre sold in Great Britain has to be type approved and carry a tyre label showing its wet grip grade, fuel efficiency grade and exterior noise level. That applies to a budget tyre exactly as it applies to a Michelin. So a cheap tyre is not an illegal tyre or an unsafe tyre; it is a tyre built to a lower price with compromises somewhere, usually in wet braking distance, tread life, noise or how it behaves at the limit.
The honest way to compare is the label. A budget tyre with a C for wet grip will stop noticeably later on a wet A47 than a premium tyre rated A, and Norfolk roads are wet far more often than they are dry. On the other hand, a second car that covers 3,000 miles a year in town will age out long before it wears out, and paying premium money for tread life you will never use is its own kind of waste. When you ring us we ask how you use the car before we recommend anything.
Budget, Mid-Range or Part Worn
There are three routes to a cheaper tyre and they are not the same thing:
- Budget new tyres from reputable manufacturers: full tread, a full life ahead of them, a known label rating and the widest choice of sizes. For most drivers looking for the cheapest sensible option, this is it.
- Mid-range brands such as Hankook, Kumho, Falken and Yokohama: usually a clear step up in wet grip and wear for a modest step up in price. Often the best value per mile on a car that does real mileage.
- Part worn tyres: the lowest outlay, but you are buying remaining tread rather than a full tyre. Every part worn we sell is inspected inside and out, pressure tested and fitted with a new valve. We will tell you when a budget new tyre is the better buy, which for a daily driver it often is.
Whichever you choose, fitting includes balancing, a new valve and disposal of the old tyre. There is no cheaper tier where those are left out.

When the Cheapest Tyre Costs More
A few situations where we will steer you away from the bottom of the range, and say why:
- Mixed tyres on one axle. Two different tyres across the front or rear can make a car unpredictable in the wet. If one tyre needs replacing and its partner is a premium with plenty of tread, the like-for-like match is usually the right call even if it costs more.
- High-mileage commuting. On the A11 or A47 every day, a cheap tyre that wears out in 12,000 miles is dearer per mile than a mid-range one that lasts 25,000.
- Heavier cars, SUVs and vans. Load rating and speed rating are not optional. A tyre that is cheap because it is the wrong specification for the vehicle is not a saving.
- Run-flat and approved fitments. Some cars are built around a specific tyre. Our run-flat tyres page explains when a standard tyre is a false economy.
Are cheap tyres safe? Budget tyres sold new in the UK must be type approved and labelled for wet grip, fuel efficiency and noise, so they are legal and safe when correctly specified for your car. The difference from a premium tyre shows up in wet stopping distance, tread life and noise, which is why we recommend by how you use the car rather than by price alone.
How We Keep the Price Down Without Cutting Corners
We are an independent garage, not a national chain, so there is no head office margin and no sales target on the counter. We quote the tyre, the fitting and nothing else, and we quote it before the car goes on the ramp. If a tyre can be repaired rather than replaced, our puncture repair service is the cheaper answer and we will say so. If your old tyres wore unevenly, a wheel alignment check stops the new set going the same way, which protects the money you have just spent.
Most single tyres are fitted in 20 to 30 minutes and a full set in about an hour. We are open Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm, with free parking on site and a waiting area, and every fitting is covered by our 3-month / 3,000-mile workmanship guarantee.
What Decides Your Price
Four things set the price of a tyre before we add the fitting: the size (a 205/55 R16 is made by everyone and is the cheapest size in the market; a 235/35 R19 is not), the tier (budget, mid-range or premium, roughly a step up in price each time and usually a step up in wet braking and wear), the speed and load rating your car specifies (XL and high-speed versions cost more, and you cannot go below what the label says), and whether it is new or a checked part worn. Fitting is the same price whatever the tyre and always includes a new valve, balancing, correct torque and disposal of the old one.
We do not publish a price list because tyre prices move weekly with the wholesalers, but the quote is quick: call 07933 900901 with the size and registration and you get two or three options at different price levels, each with its EU label, in one call. Our tyre fitting cost guide explains what is inside a tyre quote line by line, and the brand directory shows which names sit in which tier.
Getting an Exact Price
Tyre prices depend on the size, the speed and load rating and the brand tier, so nobody can give you a genuine figure without the size. It is printed on the sidewall in the form 205/55 R16 91V. Read that off the tyre, or give us the registration, and we will quote you budget, mid-range and premium options in one call on 07933 900901. If we do not have your size on the shelf we will tell you honestly whether it is same day or next day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are cheap tyres safe?
Budget tyres sold new in the UK must be type approved and labelled for wet grip, fuel efficiency and noise, so they are legal and safe when correctly specified for your car. The difference from a premium tyre shows up in wet stopping distance, tread life and noise, which is why we recommend by how you use the car rather than by price alone.
How do I find the cheapest tyres for my car in Norwich?
Read the size off the sidewall, for example 205/55 R16, and call us on 07933 900901. We will quote the budget, mid-range and premium options for that size so you can compare like for like, with fitting, balancing, a new valve and disposal included.
Is a part worn tyre cheaper than a budget new tyre?
On the day, usually yes. Per mile, often not: a part worn has a fraction of the tread a new tyre has. We inspect and pressure test every part worn we sell, and we will tell you when a budget new tyre is the better value, which for a daily driver it usually is.
Can I put one cheap tyre on with three premium ones?
It is legal, but we recommend matching tyres across an axle so the car behaves predictably, especially in the wet. If only one tyre needs replacing, ask us about a like-for-like match first.
Do you fit cheap tyres on a Sunday?
Yes. We are open Sunday 10am to 4pm and fit tyres seven days a week. Call ahead so we can confirm your size is on the shelf.
