The Nokian Range, and Who It Suits

Nokian's European road range is split into Wetproof (summer, with a wet-grip emphasis), Powerproof (performance), Seasonproof (all-season with the snowflake marking) and Snowproof (winter). The Hakkapeliitta name covers the studded and Nordic winter tyres that are overkill for East Anglia but are the reason the brand exists.

For a county that sees more standing water than snow, Seasonproof and Wetproof are the sensible choices, and Nokian's habit of engineering for the worst conditions first tends to show in aquaplaning resistance. Production for Europe is now centred on Finland and Romania.

Nokian is fitted as original equipment mainly by manufacturers selling into Nordic markets, so approval markings are less common than with the German brands. Nokian and the EU Tyre Label

A premium price should buy a premium label, and with Nokian it normally does: strong wet-grip grades and low rolling resistance across the road ranges. We check the label for your exact size rather than assuming, because grades vary between sizes of the same tyre, and show it to you beside the cheaper options.

Nokian is a next-working-day order in common sizes and can take two or three days in less usual ones. A quick call with the size or registration confirms availability before you set off.

Allow half an hour for a single Nokian and about an hour for a set. Every wheel is computer balanced, every nut is torqued to the maker's figure with a calibrated wrench, the valve or TPMS seal is renewed and the old tyre is disposed of properly. Wait in the waiting area or leave the car; parking is free. Open Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm, Sunday 10am to 4pm.
