Full Car Service Norwich

The annual service that keeps the warranty, catches the wear before it fails the MOT, and comes with a written report rather than a list of upsells.

A full service is the once-a-year job that a car is designed around. Every manufacturer publishes a schedule of what should be checked, changed and adjusted at each interval, and a proper full service follows it: the oil and filter, the air and cabin filters, spark plugs on petrol engines when due, and a systematic inspection of brakes, steering, suspension, tyres, cooling system, exhaust, lights and electrics, with a written report at the end. At Ber Street we service all makes and models to that schedule with quality OEM-specification parts, which keeps a manufacturer warranty intact, and we quote before we start rather than adding things afterwards.

What a Full Service Includes

  • Engine: oil and filter with the manufacturer-specified oil, air filter, cabin filter, spark plugs on petrol engines as due, fuel filter on diesels as due, drive belts inspected, fluid levels checked and topped up.
  • Brakes: pads and discs measured, callipers and hoses inspected, fluid moisture tested, handbrake checked and adjusted.
  • Steering and suspension: ball joints, track rod ends, bushes, springs, shock absorbers and wheel bearings checked for wear and play.
  • Tyres and wheels: tread depths and wear pattern recorded, pressures set, wheel nuts torqued.
  • Cooling, exhaust and underside: hoses, radiator, exhaust condition and mountings, driveshaft boots, leaks.
  • Electrics and lights: battery and charging test, every light, wipers and washers, horn, warning lamps.
  • Road test, service light reset and a written report with anything advisory priced.

Our full service checklist guide sets it out item by item.

Full, Interim or Major?

A full service is the annual standard for most cars. An interim service is the lighter six-monthly job for high-mileage drivers. A major service is the full service plus the long-interval items, typically brake fluid, coolant and fuel filter, roughly every two years. If you are not sure which is due, the mileage and the service history tell us, and we will recommend the right one rather than the biggest one.

Warranty, Dealers and Independents

A car under manufacturer warranty can be serviced by an independent garage without affecting the warranty, provided the manufacturer's schedule is followed and parts of the correct specification are used. We do both, stamp the book or update the digital service record where the manufacturer provides access, and give you an itemised invoice that shows exactly what was done. Our car service cost guide explains what sets the price and why it differs between a small hatchback and a large diesel.

Good to know

How long does a full service take? Typically two to three hours depending on the car and what we find. Drop off in the morning and it is usually ready the same day; we call if anything needs approval.

With the MOT

If the MOT is due within a month or so, combine it. The full service covers the items that fail most cars, so the test becomes a formality, and you lose the car for one day instead of two. See our MOT and service page for how that works, bearing in mind we arrange the test at a DVSA-approved centre rather than testing in house.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a full service take?

Typically two to three hours depending on the car and what we find. Drop off in the morning and it is usually ready the same day; we call if anything needs approval.

Will a full service at an independent garage affect my warranty?

No, provided the manufacturer schedule is followed and correct-specification parts are used, which is how we work. You get an itemised invoice and the service record updated.

What is the difference between a full and a major service?

A major service adds the long-interval items, usually brake fluid, coolant and fuel filter, roughly every two years. A full service is the annual standard.

Do you use genuine parts?

We fit quality OEM-specification parts as standard and genuine parts where a particular car benefits or the customer prefers. We tell you which on the quote.

Do you service all makes?

Yes: European, Japanese, Korean and American cars, vans and 4x4s, petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric. See our hybrid and electric servicing page for those.
