General Tire Tyres Norwich
A Continental group brand with American roots, popular for 4x4 all-terrains and value road tyres. Supplied to order and fitted at our Ber Street garage, seven days a week.
General Tire is an American name founded in 1915 and now part of the Continental group, best known in the UK for its Grabber 4x4 range and the Altimax road tyres. We supply General to order and fit it at our Ber Street workshop, seven days a week.
The General Tire Range, and Who It Suits
Grabber is the 4x4 family: Grabber AT3 is the all-terrain with the snowflake marking, Grabber X3 the mud-terrain and Grabber HTS60 the highway pattern for SUVs. Altimax One S is the passenger summer tyre and Altimax AS 365 the all-season. The van range carries the Eurovan name.
General sits in the mid-range with Continental engineering behind it, and for a Land Rover or pickup owner who wants an all-terrain without a premium price it is one of the sensible answers.
Two very different customers ask for General: Land Rover and pickup owners who want a Grabber all-terrain that costs less than a BFGoodrich, and family-car drivers who have spotted that the Altimax One S labels close to Continental's own tyres for less money. Both are sound reasons. On a 4x4 we match all four; on a car we show you the Altimax label next to the Continental in the same size.
General Tire at a glance
| General Tire range | Best for |
|---|---|

| Grabber X3 | mud-terrain |
| Grabber HTS60 | SUV highway |
| Altimax One S | everyday cars |

| Eurovan 2 | vans |
Manufacturer-Approved Fitments
General is chosen on merit rather than by approval marking. On four-wheel-drive vehicles we match all four tyres, and the Grabber AT3 is available in the C-rated sizes pickups require. If you are not sure what your car needs, read the sidewall of the tyre you already have or give us the registration and we will work it out for you.

Popular General Tire Sizes
The General Tire sizes Norwich drivers ask us for most are the common hatchback and crossover fitments. Each size below has its own page explaining which cars use it and what the codes mean:
General Tire and the EU Tyre Label
Mid-range brands such as General Tire are where the EU label matters most, because the best of them label within a grade of the premium names for noticeably less. Wet grip is the column to watch on Norfolk roads; we show you the label for the exact General Tire tyre in your size beside a premium and a budget option.
How General Tire Fitting Works Here
Call with your size
Or the registration. We quote premium to budget with the EU label for each.
Fitted the same day
New valve, computer balanced, torqued by hand, old tyre disposed of.
Checked before you leave
Pressures set, the other three looked at, alignment advised if the old tyre wore unevenly.
Fitting General Tire Tyres at Ber Street
General is usually a next-working-day order. Tell us the size or the registration and we will confirm the pattern and book the fitting.
Fitting is the same careful job whatever the badge: the wheel comes off, the old tyre is stripped, the rim is checked for damage, a new valve goes in, the General Tire is mounted and balanced, and the wheel goes back on with a calibrated torque wrench rather than an air gun. One tyre takes around half an hour, a set about an hour. Free parking, a waiting area, and we are open seven days a week including Sunday 10am to 4pm.
Ask us straight whether General Tire is the right choice and you will get a straight answer. Sometimes it is; sometimes a step up or a step down the brand list fits the car and the budget better, and we will show you the label ratings that make the case. All workmanship is guaranteed for 3 months or 3,000 miles.
Ask us to check the geometry when the General Tire tyres go on if the old ones wore unevenly; a four-wheel alignment is cheaper than a second set of tyres. And bring a nail-in-tyre to us before assuming it is scrap, because a puncture repair is usually possible in the central tread.
