Vehicle Health Check Norwich
A written inspection with photos and prices, so you know what a car needs before you buy it, before you drive to Scotland, or before the MOT finds out for you.
A vehicle health check is an inspection with no repair attached: we go over the car systematically, write down what we find with photographs, and price anything that needs doing, and then the decision is yours. People book one for three reasons: they are about to buy a used car privately or from a small dealer and want to know what they are getting; they are about to drive a long way with the family in the car; or the car is between services and something feels wrong. Free visual tyre and brake checks are available at Ber Street every day; the full health check goes much further.
What the Health Check Covers
- Tyres: tread depth across each tyre, wear pattern, age from the date code, sidewall damage, pressures, spare or repair kit.
- Brakes: pad thickness, disc measurement and condition, callipers, hoses, fluid moisture, handbrake.
- Steering and suspension: play in ball joints, track rod ends and bushes, springs, shock absorbers, wheel bearings, driveshaft boots.
- Engine bay: fluid levels and condition, leaks, belts, hoses, battery and charging test, cooling system pressure test where warranted.
- Underside: exhaust, corrosion, leaks, previous repairs.
- Electrics: every light, wipers, washers, horn, warning lamps, and a diagnostic scan for stored fault codes.
- Road test: brakes, steering, noises, gearbox and clutch behaviour.
- A written report with photographs of anything found, graded as urgent, soon or advisory, and priced.
Pre-Purchase Inspections
A private sale or a small forecourt comes with little comeback, and an hour on our ramp before you hand over the money is the best protection you can buy. We look for the things a test drive hides: uneven tyre wear that points to accident damage or worn suspension, corrosion under fresh underseal, a clutch near the end of its life, stored fault codes that were cleared before you arrived, and evidence that the cambelt was or was not done. You get a report you can negotiate with or walk away on. Our used car checks guide covers what to look at yourself first.

Before a Long Trip
Coast, Cornwall, Scotland or the Alps: a long drive with a full car is the hardest work most family cars do all year, and a breakdown far from home costs a holiday. The health check before you go covers the things that fail on long runs, tyres, brakes, cooling, battery and belts, and the report tells you what to fix before you leave and what can wait until you are back. Our road trip check guide is the do-it-yourself version.
How much is a vehicle health check? The free visual tyre and brake check costs nothing. The full written health check and pre-purchase inspection are quoted when you book, depending on how deep you want us to go. Any repairs are priced separately in the report.
Something Feels Wrong
A noise you cannot place, a vibration, a smell, a car that does not feel like it did: a health check is the structured way to find it without committing to a repair. If the cause needs diagnostics we say so; if it is nothing, you have the report and the reassurance. Call 07933 900901 to book. Open seven days, free parking at 100-106 Ber Street.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much is a vehicle health check?
The free visual tyre and brake check costs nothing. The full written health check and pre-purchase inspection are quoted when you book, depending on how deep you want us to go. Any repairs are priced separately in the report.
Can you inspect a car I have not bought yet?
Yes. Arrange with the seller to bring it to Ber Street, or have them meet you here, and we inspect it on the ramp while you wait. You get a written, photographed report to decide with.
How long does a health check take?
Around an hour for the full check including a road test; longer if a pressure test or diagnostic investigation is needed. You can wait.
Is a health check the same as an MOT?
No. An MOT is a legal pass-or-fail on specific items on the day. A health check is a broader, advisory inspection with prices, and it is not a certificate. Many people have one before the MOT to avoid a fail.
Do I have to have the repairs done with you?
No. The report is yours. Most people do have the work done here because it is priced and ready to book, but there is no obligation.
