BMW Servicing and Repairs Norwich
Serviced to BMW's condition-based schedule, fitted with the star-marked tyres the car was built around, and repaired by people who know where BMWs leak, rattle and overheat.
Norwich has a lot of BMWs: 1 and 3 Series on Newmarket Road, X1s and X3s on the school run, 5 Series and X5s coming in from Wymondham and Wroxham. They are well-built cars with well-documented habits, and an independent garage that knows those habits can look after one for a fraction of what a dealership charges. We service to BMW's condition-based schedule with the correct oil approval and reset the CBS indicators properly, fit the star-marked run-flat and performance tyres the car specifies, and repair the cooling system plastics, oil leaks, timing chains and electrical faults that BMWs develop with age.
Condition-Based Servicing, Done Properly
BMW does not use a simple annual service. The car tracks its own oil life, brake pad wear, brake fluid age, microfilter and spark plug intervals separately and asks for each when it is due. Servicing a BMW properly means reading the CBS data, doing the items that are actually due, using an oil that carries the BMW LongLife approval the engine specifies, and resetting each item individually so the car's record is right. A garage that just changes the oil and clears everything leaves the car thinking its brake fluid is new when it is not.
A BMW under manufacturer warranty can be serviced by an independent garage without affecting that warranty, provided the manufacturer's schedule is followed and parts of the correct specification are used. That is how we work: the correct oil, OEM-specification or genuine parts, the service indicator reset and the record updated, with an itemised invoice that shows exactly what was done.
The BMW Jobs We Do Most
- Cooling system. Expansion tanks, thermostat housings, water pumps and coolant pipes on many BMW engines are plastic and fail with heat and age. A coolant warning or a level that drops is a pressure test today, not a head gasket next month.
- Oil leaks. Oil filter housing gaskets, rocker cover gaskets and sump gaskets are the usual sources; we find which before replacing anything.
- Timing chains. Some four-cylinder diesel engines of a particular generation have a known pattern of chain and guide wear, made expensive by the chain sitting at the back of the engine. A rattle on start-up is worth a diagnosis early. See timing chain work.
- EGR, DPF and swirl flaps on diesels; see diesel repairs.
- Brakes with the electronic parking brake serviced correctly, and rear pads that often wear before the fronts on rear-wheel-drive models.
- Suspension: control arm bushes and drop links on cars that take Norfolk roads at BMW speeds.

Star-Marked Tyres and Run-Flats
Most BMWs came from the factory on run-flat tyres marked with a star, developed with BMW for the car. Run-flats need the right fitting equipment and generally cannot be repaired after a puncture; swapping to conventional tyres is possible but changes the car and leaves you without a spare. We fit both, explain the trade-offs honestly and check the sidewall before quoting Bridgestone, Continental, Pirelli, Goodyear or Michelin in the right specification. See run-flat tyres.
Can an independent garage reset BMW condition-based servicing? Yes, with the right equipment, and each item (oil, brakes, brake fluid, microfilter, plugs) is reset individually as it is done, so the car's own record stays accurate.
MINI
MINI is BMW underneath and is serviced and repaired the same way, with its own well-known patterns: timing chain rattle on some earlier turbocharged petrol engines, thermostat housings, oil leaks and run-flats. We look after them alongside their bigger siblings; see our MINI servicing page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can an independent garage reset BMW condition-based servicing?
Yes, with the right equipment, and each item (oil, brakes, brake fluid, microfilter, plugs) is reset individually as it is done, so the car's own record stays accurate.
Do I have to use star-marked tyres on my BMW?
Not by law, but the star version was developed with BMW for the car and the standard tyre can ride and steer differently. We check what came off and quote the matching specification and the alternative.
Can a BMW run-flat tyre be repaired?
Usually not once it has been driven on flat, and most manufacturers prohibit it. We inspect and tell you honestly; replacement is the normal answer.
Why does my BMW keep losing coolant?
Plastic cooling parts, expansion tanks, thermostat housings and pipes, become brittle with age on many BMW engines. A pressure test finds the leak before it becomes an overheating event.
Is servicing a BMW at an independent much cheaper than the dealer?
Usually noticeably, because the labour rate is lower while the schedule, oil approval and parts specification are the same. Call with the registration and we will quote the items that are actually due.
